Waveland has been totally obliterated…

Cars are turned upside down or perched on fences. Boats sit in front lawns. Roadsides are piled high in debris from gutted homes. The few businesses that were not forced to close have mounted spray-painted plywood boards announcing their hours in front of the debris hiding their storefronts. I saw a roof laying next to the road, but no house to go with it.

Spray-painted messages have been left on uninhabitable houses:

“please don’t bulldoze”
“nationwide please help”
“I’m ok -Louis”
